After the US Speaker of the House met with the Taiwan president, China has proposed retaliation by starting to spy on children via social media app TikTok.
“We weren’t actually spying on anyone before this,” said Chinese spokesman Bill Wilson. “Now, we’re going to flip the big switch that says, ‘Start spying on people’.”
The social media app TikTok has been under scrutiny for its collection of personal data from its users that can then be seen by the Chinese government. This is particularly concerning as children are the main audience for this app.
Bill Wilson went on to explain. “Just to be clear, we do have a giant ‘Start spying on people’ button in our office where we can just start spying on people. It’s not a metaphor. That’s how seriously we take this.”
The United States will continue with plans to ban TikTok nationwide. Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, said in an interview that this is “what’s best for the country”. He then picked up a folder labeled “Personal data of millions of people”, put on a jetpack, and took off, leaving a trail of $100 bills.
